Procuring and using geodata in a live project is hard
Countless potentially relevant geospatial datasets, some public, others hidden away. Thousands of satellites and sensors orbiting the Earth. Artificial intelligence and deep learning continuously improving in how these images are interpreted at ever higher resolutions…
And yet, you may be wondering: how do I fit this into my development project so it actually makes a difference, all while meeting deadlines and staying within budget?
Procuring Earth Observation and geoinformation services correctly is no easy task. Service providers bombard you with technical jargon and widely varying cost estimates due to the ever present ‘it depends’. And on top of all this, you may not even be quite sure yet what analytical question you want to have answered.
I guide you in sifting through the wealth of offers in this constantly innovating industry. I support you in identifying solutions most appropriate for your project. For instance, in some use cases, sub-meter resolution may not be required. In others, it may be absolutely essential.
What I offer
FAQ
I have directly worked for the World Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and UN-Habitat. Indirectly, as part of co-financing projects and through my former employer GAF AG, I have worked with the Asian Development Bank and the African Development Bank.

As an urban planner, I cover most aspects of urban development at different spatial scales. Development plan making at city and local area level, transport planning, social housing, urban regeneration and public space, water supply and sanitation, natural hazards and resilience, nature-based solutions.
At the same time, almost everything in development has a spatial dimension. Therefore, if your development project is in a non-urban domain, do reach out to see if I can support.
I have worked extensively on and in India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Kenya. I have also covered Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, and Nigeria. In each case, my preparation is extensive: I read as much as I can, I seek out local expertise and am not afraid to ask questions.
At the same time, I’m cognizant that no amount of preparation can hold a candle to local knowledge and experience acquired over many years.
I am motivated by wanting to create more liveable and resilient places that work for all of us.
